Frequently Asked Questions

When should I order my cake?

I would always recommend that the earlier you book the better to help avoid disappointment. Some dates will fill quickly particularly over the summer months and some people will book for weddings over a year in advance. Once your order is placed and a deposit received then your date is secure.

However, I am sometimes able to accommodate last minute orders, don't panic if you feel you have left it too late, just give me a ring and I can advise you further.

Do you make you own cakes?

All cakes are baked to order. I prefer to let my rich fruitcake mature for three months so that it is at its very best. Sponge cakes can be ordered as little as one week in advance, however this is dependent on the decoration required and my diary.

How do I order a cake?

In the first instance please give me a call on 01442 827330 alternatively you could send me an email at mail@tarascakecompany.com or taras_cake_company@yahoo.co.uk, we can then discuss your exact requirements.

Can have a face to face meeting regarding my cake?

Yes of course, you can contact me to make an appointment to meet at my home in Tring where you can look at my portfolio and we can work together to create your dream cake. It is important to consider the theme of the occasion and the personality of the people for whom the cake is being made.

I would always recommend a full consultation for wedding cakes so that I can discuss your requirements with you. It helps to bring colour swatches and fabric, photographs, flower information, magazine clippings, stationery and any other relevant design items which can assist me when it comes to designing the cake.

What flavours are the cakes available in?

The most popular flavours are...

  • Sponge - Lemon/Chocolate/Orange/Vanilla
  • Chocolate Mud Cake
  • Rich Fruit Cake
  • Light Fruit Cake
  • Carrot Cake

If you have any special requirements or a particular flavour that is not on my list please get in touch and I can try and accommodate your needs.

What size cake do I need?

The size of the cake you need will depend on the number of guests that are attending your event. If the cake is for a wedding you also need to consider if you want to send any family and friends a slice that were unable to attend the wedding. If your cake is going to be served as desert then you will need twice as much cake as the portion size needs to be bigger.

When I meet with you or during our telephone conversation I can give you an idea of what size cake you need to cater for the number of portions you wish the cake to serve.

Do you have a minimum order for cupcakes?

Yes, for standard size cupcakes the minimum order is 24.

Do I have to choose a specific cake from your website & galleries?

No. The cakes displayed are purely to guide and inspire you, the galleries also show you some examples of my work, each cake is designed according to your individual requirements. Please let me know what ideas you might have and I will create a cake to suit your requirements. If you have seen a picture in a magazine of a cake, fabric or design we can turn these ideas into the perfect cake.

How much do your cakes cost?

I make each cake to suit the requirements of the individual, so that your personal style is reflected in your cake. Prices therefore will vary according to the type of cake, size and decoration required. If you would like to give me a call or send me an email then we can have a more detail discussion

As a rough guide…

…an 10 inch round novelty cake will start from £95.00

…a three tier round stacked fruit wedding cake will start from £350.00

...cupcakes will start from £2.00 each

...mini cupcakes will start from £1.00 each

Do you make the bride and groom figures?

Yes. The bride and groom toppers are handmade by myself, they are made from a light weight clay and mounted on a small board so that that can be placed onto your cake. They are made to resemble the bride and groom including hair colour and outfits. The prices start from £110.00 per couple.

How do I care for and store my cake before the event?

You must never put your cake in the fridge, instead it should be in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight on a flat stable surface.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me, I will be more that happy to answer your queries. I look forward to hearing from you.
